I've gone to counseling before, why should I try again?

The #1 factor for success in counseling is fit - finding a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Counseling doesn't work unless you feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you choose. Every client is different and every therapist is different. Don't throw in the counseling towel because your last therapist wasn't a good fit. Many of the clients I work best with have had unsuccessful relationships with counselors in the past. I may not be the right fit for you but I am passionate about helping people find their right fit. That's why I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation so that you can get a feel for how I work.

Who do you see?

I specialize in working with women struggling with anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I do not see children or adolescents at this time.

What if I don't have anxiety, depression, or complex trauma? Can you still help me?

Although I specialize in anxiety, depression, and complex trauma, I have worked with an array of issues from grief and life transitions to relationship issues. I have particularly enjoyed helping people work through issues of self-esteem and learning to set boundaries with unhealthy people in their lives. I'd love to talk to you about how I can help with your unique concerns.

How often will we meet? How long are sessions?

Sessions typically run between 45 and 55 minutes. I usually like to see new clients weekly so that we can hit the ground running to get you moving toward change. As you begin to feel better and stronger, we'll talk about moving our sessions to every other week, then monthly. Periodically we will discuss your progress. When you feel as though you are reaching your goals and have enough tools in your box, we'll talk about ending our therapeutic relationship. Ultimately my goal is to help you get to the point where you feel confident in who you are and the choices you make so that therapy becomes obsolete!

What are your rates?

My rate is $150 per session.

Do you take insurance?

I am a network provider for the following insurance companies:

Blue Cross Blue Shield
Blue Care Network
Priority Health
Medicare

If I am not in-network with your insurance company, my services may still be covered. If your health insurance has out-of-network coverage, payment is due at the time of service. I am happy to provide documentation but I do not guarantee reimbursement by your insurance company. Some people prefer not to involve their insurance company and pay for services directly. I am glad to discuss any questions you may have about insurance or self-pay options for counseling.

Although I work directly with insurance companies that I am in network with, you are ultimately responsible for communicating with your insurance company to determine your coverage. I encourage you to do so prior to our first scheduled appointment. Some questions you may want to ask of your insurance company are:

Do I have coverage for outpatient mental health treatment?
Does my health plan cover out-of-network providers?
Is pre-authorization required?
Have I met my deductible?
Is there a maximum number of therapy sessions allowed under my current coverage?
What is my co-pay for mental health treatment?

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fee?

Providing access to mental health services for all people is a priority for me. If you are uninsured, please don't let that stop you from seeking help. I have a limited amount of reduced fee spots and would love to talk to you about how we can make therapy fit into your budget.
